Alfandêga do Porto Congress Center, Alfandêga Building, Porto, Portugal
The Alfândega do Porto building, also known as Alfândega Nova, was built between 1860 and 1870 as a customs center for the city of Porto, Portugal. Designed by French architect Jean F. G. Colson, it was used to process goods arriving at the port, reflecting the importance of commerce at the time.
In the 20th century, after being deactivated as a customs house, the building was rehabilitated to become the Customs Congress and Exhibition Center, also housing the Transport and Communications Museum. Today, the site is a space for cultural events, conferences and exhibitions, representing a successful rehabilitation of Porto’s industrial heritage.
