Luís Paulo Reis

Biographical Note

Luís Paulo Reis has a Bachelor’s degree (1993), Master’s degree (1995) and PhD (2003) in Electrical and Computer Engineering (specializations in IT and Systems, Industrial IT, Artificial Intelligence/Robotics) from the University of Porto.
He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in Portugal, Director of LIACC – Artificial Intelligence and Computer Sciences Laboratory.
He is a senior member of IEEE and has held positions such as President of SPR, President of APPIA, director of MIEGSI/UMinho, among others.
He is currently Co-Director of LIACD – Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. He was Principal Investigator in more than 20 research projects in the areas of Intelligent Systems, Robotics,Simulation, Interaction, Software and Educational/Serious Games. He supervised 23 Doctoral Theses and 160 Master’s dissertations already completed in these areas and is currently supervising 12 PhD theses.
He was an evaluator of more than 50 proposals and/or projects from the European programs FP6, FP7, Horizon2020 and national programs from FCT and ANI/Portugal2020.
He was a guest speaker at several international conferences such as ICAART, ICINCO, LARS/SBR, WAF, IcSports, SYROCO, CLAWAR, WCQR and ECIAIR. He has organized more than 60 international scientific events and served on the program committee of more than 250 scientific events. He has obtained more than 60 Awards for academic, scientific or pedagogical merit.
He is the author of more than 400 scientific publications in international journals and conferences indexed in ISI and/or SCOPUS.
